JOB DESCRIPTION

The UAE Embassy in Yerevan is part of a world-wide network, representing UAE political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a full-time Residence Chef.
The Residence is the centre of entertainment for the UAE Embassy in Yerevan. A range of events take place there throughout the year ranging from breakfasts, afternoon teas and lunches, to cocktail receptions, formal dinners and, in the summer, large garden parties. The Residence has a number of guest rooms used for official visits. It’s also home to the Ambassador and their family.
The Residence Chef plays an important role cooking and planning menus for official events. The chef is responsible for ensuring that menus are varied and imaginative, making good use of seasonably available ingredients, and incorporating local cuisine with Emirati traditions, noting that sustainability is a key goal in all we do at the Embassy, particularly at the events. The chef is also responsible for shopping for ingredients, being mindful of value for money, and reconciling receipts. The wine cellar and beverage inventory is also under the Chef’s management. They oversee the running of the kitchen including ensuring excellent health, safety and hygiene is adhered to.
The role is carried out with another part-time Residence Chef with whom the new hire will work closely. The new hire will be a crucial member of the Ambassador’s team and expected to be a strong team player, contributing to a high standard of service delivery on a daily basis. The Residence Chef will directly report to the Events & Residence Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Catering & Event Work:
- Preparation and execution of menus for official meetings/ events;
- Liaise with the Events and Residence Manager to produce food reflecting themes and objectives of events and incorporating dietary needs;
- Ensure to have minimal waste and take care of recycling;
- Receive deliveries to the Residence and store all produce following hygiene requirements;
- Supervise additional casual staff during events;
- Cooking at other Diplomatic missions as required.
Shopping & Budget Management:
- Make shopping lists being mindful of budgets and take responsibility for weekly food shopping;
- Use a credit card and keep up with timely reconciliations in the official system;
- Have good relationships with our suppliers and monitor the budget, including that timely payments are made for our food and drink suppliers in coordination with the Events & Residence Manager.
Cleaning:
- Clean up the kitchen after events including washing dishes;
- Ensure kitchen area and all tools/equipment, including work surfaces and the fridges, freezers and cupboards are regularly cleaned, daily during busy periods;
- Periodic deep cleaning of entire kitchen area.
Other:
- Provide support to the Residence team during annual leaves;
- Work flexibly in the role and as part of a wider Embassy team;
- Attend weekly residence and monthly staff meetings;
- Report technical or maintenance issues to the Events & Residence Manager and Corporate Services team;
- Assist other residence staff members with ad-hoc tasks and projects, as requested.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Be able to cater for all kinds of events from breakfasts to lunches, dinners and cocktail receptions for groups ranging from 2 people to over 500;
- Able to work collaboratively whilst showing a good degree of autonomy;
- Fluency in English C1 level is essential;
- Ability to adapt to last-minute changes when necessary;
- Good humour and positive attitude with a customer-focused approach;
- Good communication skills and confidence;
- Being discrete at all times;
- Attention to detail and high quality;
- Excellent organisational and time management skills;
- Ability to work flexible hours;
- Basic IT competency (Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel);
- Numerical skills including handling money.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience of living and/ or working in the Armenian or another international environment;
- Knowledge of and interest in Emirati food and an innovative approach to cooking;
- Food hygiene certification (hygieniapassi);
- Driving licence, ideally with use of own car.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
: 
Staff may be required to work beyond conditioned hours during the week, or at weekends, in such case they are entitled to take time off in lieu. TOIL hours must have prior approval.
The appointment is subject to professional background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.
